THE SPOON AS AN ELEMENTAL FORM
The history of a simple object is rarely straightforward. Even the spoon has a history, both as a functional and as a decorative object. The spoon is more than just an eating tool, it is also a familiar object with a simple shape, which formed the basis of this research in the applied arts. For a long time the spoon was an object people carried with them. It was primarily a tool for eating, but its portability also became an important aspect. This portability was the starting point for the collection 'The spoon as an elemental form’. The cross section and outline of the spoon, as well as its transformation into a wearable piece of jewellery, form the guiding principles throughout this project. Margot Declerck clearly focuses on the potential of the shape and esthetical aspects of objects. This collection of jewellery is made of glass and flexible synthetics. The making process, with an existing object as starting point, is the essence of this project.
